Why we leave the scars
Old repairs, blocked doors and burn marks are part of the record. We keep most of them.
A wall is a document
Every building we work on has been changed many times. A blocked doorway, a patch of brick in a stone wall, a burn mark above a hearth. Each one tells you something about who lived there and what they needed.
Our rule is simple. If a scar is stable and it explains the building, it stays. We clean it, consolidate it and leave it visible.
When we do repair
Where stone has decayed far enough to let water in, we cut it out and replace it with stone from the same bed where we can find it. The new piece is dressed by hand but left slightly plainer, so a careful eye can always tell old from new.
